Overview
A sizzling lineup of jazz greats, direct from the longest consecutively running jazz festival in the world! The dream of founder Jimmy Lyons became reality in 1958, when the first Monterey Jazz Festival featured such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, and Billie Holiday. This 55th-anniversary tour reflects Monterey's "traditional-untraditionalist" attitude and jazz-with-a-purpose exuberance, which continues to be the hallmark of the festival to this day. "Certainly the emphasis is on the excellent music, but there's more to the festival than that. It's a consistent and reliable celebration of the human spirit, camaraderie, and joie de vivre that's more than welcome in our trying times" (examiner.com).
